This satellite picture, looking westward, with a vertical distance of 7,400 feet, shows Manzano, New Mexico
at an elevation of 6896 feet on the eastern base of the Manzano Mountains. In the middle 1800s the area
was quite active. The 2000 census population was given as 54 residents. The structures near the red dot is
Our Lady of Sorrows Church complex.
This picture is from a vertical distance of 10,000 feet and shows some of the land that must have been the
attraction for settlers in the early 1800s. The Guevaras must have had a small portion to use for farming
and grazing for livestock 150 years ago.
